What is sprint capacity?
Sprint capacity is the total hours your team can realistically spend on sprint work. Calculating capacity up front prevents over- or under-committing.
The calculation
Per team member: days × hours per day × focus factor. The focus factor accounts for meetings, support and other interruptions — often around 70–80%.
Tips
- Subtract holidays and days off from available days.
- Start with a focus factor of 80% and adjust based on experience.
- Recalculate capacity at the start of each sprint.
